Animal sculptures in Radiomäki Hill

Johannes Ivakko

2003

Concrete

In 2003, the Lahti Historical Museum received a collection of works by outsider artist Johannes Ivakko, consisting of wooden figurines and mixed-media outdoor sculptures. The outdoor works were moved from the artist’s yard to the old radio station, where they now delight visitors. Having acquired a blanket of moss over the years, the animals in the collection represent both wild and domestic species: cows, horses, pigs, dogs, bears and elks. Among the cute animals is the figure of a ferocious hunter on a bear hunt and the homely figures of a host and a hostess.
