In a Sunny Moment

Environmental art

On a sky-blue wall flutter 23 gilded bronze butterflies. Each is unique and represents a different species of butterfly found in Finland. The work is located at Aleksanterinkatu 9 in the courtyard of the Tuomitalo house designed by architect Unto Ojonen, whose buildings used to be known as “blue houses”, which explains why artist Jukka Tuominen chose blue as the background colour for his work. The cheerful and light-hearted installation brings a small piece of summer and blue sky to the heart of the city centre. The almost surreptitious presence of the work may surprise passers-by who happen to stumble upon it.

Blue wall adorned with golden butterflies. Next to the wall, a bench and two planters. In the background, a wall with climbing reddish-leaved plant, and in front of it, bicycles in a bike rack.
