Environmental art

As part of the rejuvenation of the market square, Light Well was installed there following the completion of the underground parking facility. Four consultants were invited to submit ideas for lighting the square. The winner was Marjut Kauppinen Architects. Designed by Kauppinen and Reija Pasanen, the light well is an integral part of the square’s lighting and pays tribute to its history. The concept was inspired by fragments of old wells discovered in archaeological excavations in the square. Completed in 2015 for the opening of the renovated square, the work has attracted widespread interest from local residents.
