Corten-steel

Hannu Siren’s Magma at the sculpture complex on Radiomäki hill is a minimalist work with a slightly sloping top. The steel surface of the abstract monolith has a rusty patina throughout. Of particular note is the work’s material, which evokes coldness and hardness, and the dynamic of its precise mathematical form in relation to the surrounding nature. The massive work engages in a striking, if sparse, dialogue with the delicate vegetation that surrounds it. Having left its mark on the sculpture in the form of corrosion, nature has literally become part of the artwork.
