Concrete

At Kirkkokatu 2, in the courtyard of the Lahti co-educational school, stands the large Mixed Tree, a sculpture by the famous Lahti-based artist professor Olavi Lanu. Resembling a tree trunk, the concrete sculpture depicts two human figures, one supporting the other in its arms. True to the artist’s distinctive style, Lanu’s faceless and androgynous figures merge into a single, solid whole, in which the subject matter, materials and nature cannot be separated. Thus, Mixed Tree is like the embracing couple itself: an indivisible, harmonious whole.
