Mural

In the 1980s, the Lahti Youth Council decided to commission a mural for the façade of its office at Sammonkatu 8. The winner of competition was Heli Martikainen (b. 1959), a student at the Lahti Art Institute. When completed, her mural on the façade was the largest in Finland at the time. The mural consists of painted plaster on brick and is almost the full height of the wall. Seemingly assembled from colourful fragments, the modernist composition is stylistically non-representational.
