Radiomäki sculpture ensemble: Stone Figures, Resting Figure, Three Willows, Sitting Figure

Olavi Lanu

Concrete

Faceless human figures that blend into the material they are made of are a familiar motif in Olavi Lanu’s works. Such figures can also be found on the Radiomäki hill, curled up, lying on the ground or on a pedestal, either sitting or gathered in a group. Made of fibreglass and concrete, the sculptures combine natural motifs with human ones, with Lanu’s characteristically intriguing and fragile style merging with a laborious and demanding sculptural technique that mimics natural surfaces. Blending in with their surroundings, the mysterious figures can come as a surprise to visitors who encounter them for the first time.
