Pentti Rantanen (1930–2016) was a district judge and city councillor in Lahti as well as a prominent figure in the local sports scene. He was instrumental in the construction of Lahti Energia Arena, as a tribute to which his memorial is placed in front of the entrance to the arena, which was completed in 1981. The monument, commissioned and donated to the city by the Lahti Sports Hall Association, was created by artist Matti Happonen.
