Reijo Huttu

2008

Bronze, granite

This monument to the spouses of war veterans was unveiled on Veterans’ Day, 27 April 2008. It was created by sculptor Reijo Huttu. The plan was initially to place the work in the Pikku-Vesijärvenpuisto park, but it was eventually sited in Hospital Park, where Homecoming of the Hakkapeliittas was previously located. The statue depicts an elderly disabled man and his wife walking side by side. The figures were modelled after the artist’s parents.
