Unveiling event for Maarten Baas’s Sweepers Clock video Installation at 11.45 AM

The event has ended

Welcome to the unveiling of a new public artwork in the City of Lahti, taking place in front of the main entrance of Malski on Wednesday, May 28 at 12.00 PM. A press briefing will begin at 11.45 AM.

Lahti Museum of Visual Arts Malva opened three years ago, and one of its inaugural exhibitions was Hide and Seek by Dutch artist Maarten Baas. From that exhibition, the video installation Sweepers Clock (2009) was acquired for Malva’s collection and has now been installed to display the time to passersby on Päijänteenkatu. The 12-hour-long piece features two men sweeping debris. The piles of trash form the clock’s hands, which the men move with their brooms. The work also functions as a timepiece.

Maarten Baas (b. 1978) creates works that lie in the fascinating space between art and design. His unique expression combines conceptual art, craftsmanship, installations, public art, and performance. Clocks from Baas’s Real Time series can also be found in other parts of the world, such as at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam and Paddington Station in London.

See you under the clock!
