Lahti City Museums is the Museum of the Year 2025!

The Lahti City Museums, the Media Museum and Archives Merkki from Helsinki, and the Museum of Torne Valley competed for the title of Museum of the Year 2025, organized by the Finnish National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the Finnish Museums Association.

The award was presented to the Lahti City Museums at the Museum Awards Gala on May 22 in Pori, Finland. Winning this award is a great honor for us, and we also extend our congratulations to the other wonderful finalists!

“The Lahti City Museums have a long tradition of strong community work. Particularly exemplary is the way the museum has successfully integrated the task of promoting well-being into its operations. The museum takes responsibility for the history and future of the people of Lahti,” The jury detailed their reasons for choosing the winner.

The diverse family of The Lahti City Museums includes the Ski Museum, the Lahti Historical Museum, the Lahti Museum of Visual Arts Malva, and the Radio and TV Museum Mastola. “Lahti Museums have been consistently developing museum services and clarifying the impact of their operations,” says Museum Director Tuulia Tuomi.

The four museum sites of the Lahti City Museums are characterized by different content, target groups, and programs, but behind the scenes, museum work is done together with common goals as a museum with the regional responsibility of the Päijät-Häme area. In recent years, the city of Lahti has invested heavily in museum services, enabling the development of museum activities to a nationally influential level.
